We are pleased to present a solo exhibition of the work of Cesar Forero, multidisciplinary artist based in Kirkland Lake.

On April 28th we are presenting at 6:30pm a ten minute Visual Arts Performance in collaboration with Colombe Hinse as singer, Alison Parle as dancer, music created by Steven Whalley and an interactive drawing activity.

This exhibition, The Message, will present a large scale installation made up of a range of sculpture, painting and performance produced by Cesar Forero, Columbian-born Canadian artist who lives and works in Northern Ontario.

In his immersive installations, Cesar Forero explores the idea of universal harmony as sought through various schools of thought including geometry, Cymatics, The Flower of Life and Ley-lines. The work in this exhibition dances with the concept of an essential truth, an underlying commonality which connects all human beings. Namely, it celebrates the concept of Love.??

Humanity has a unique responsibility for everything on the planet. We can behave wickedly, killing and destroying, or we have the potential to control our own egos, becoming the greatest creators. Love is the source of all creation and is present throughout. Living our lives with love, not only to specific individuals but everything in our environment, can tune us into the physical and spiritual universe." - Cesar Forero, 2017

We hope that you can join us next Friday for the opening of this dynamic exhibition! This exhibition is proudly supported by the Ontario Arts Council.

Artist Biography

Cesar is a Colombian-born Canadian artist with a background in architecture, sculpture, painting, and public performance. He holds an MA from the Minnesota Sate University and an MFA from the University of Waterloo, Ontario. Forero taught architecture, design and art at the university level in Colombia, United States, and Canada. His ongoing artistic practice increasingly focuses on the creation of multimedia installations incorporating two and three-dimensional elements, as well as dance and musical performance. The intent in his practice is to create a liminal space in which the viewer stands inside the environment as participant, and is transported from everyday reality into a symbolic experience. Movement is an important element in his work, sometimes expressed in a frozen moment, and at times it is expressed in direct physical action.

Cesar Forero has created public commissions for the Town and Mine memorial in Matachewan Ontario, and The Kirkland Lake Commemorative Plaque at Toburn Site. He has been a finalist in the 2008 Public Art Competition for St. Clair Avenue W. Transit Improvement project, and the Pride 2014 Church Street Murals. His work resides in both public and private collections, and has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Japan, and the US. Forero performed at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) in 2012. He has been an Artist in Residenca at the Living Arts Centre Residents program, Mississauga, the LIA International Art Program in Leipzig Germany, and at FundaciĆ³n ACE in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is the recipient of several grants from the Ontario Arts Council, multiple awards in US and Canada, and was honoured as Established Visual Artist of the Year 2007 by the Mississauga Arts Council.
