Sacred Earth

Printers Five

September 12 - November 10, 2015

Sacred Earth

Printers Five is Janet Bourgeau, Catharine Cribbs, Faye Digulla, Walter Pape, and Maureen Steward. Each member of the Printers Five is an independent artist print maker. They are spread out geographically along a 360 km swath through Northeastern Ontario. They admire eachother's work, and have become friends who are linked by their passion for the "pull" of a fresh, new print.

For this exhibition in the Gallery II Main Space, Printers Five has come together to produce and document a body of work that reflects their connection to this planet earth. Their theme, "Sacred Earth", had been chosen to tie their diverse styles and techniques together while allowing each artist the freedom to interpret their own ideas. While much of the creative work for Sacred Earth has been done in separate studios, the artists have been able to share their strengths in communal sessions for project planning and philosophical discussion. Moreover, they have shared their experience in the technical aspects of designing, creating, and printing plates.

The dynamics of five strongly opinionated artists are invigorating. They learn from each other; and they spur each other on to deeper reflection. They see their task, as artists, is to make what we imagine become real. They each use their skill and their feelings to give visual form to their personal and unique take on "Sacred Earth".

The exhibition opens to public on Saturday, September 12, followed by an official reception on Friday, September 18, 7-9:30 pm, during the Downtown Gallery Hop. We hope to see you there!
