New Passengers

Michelle LaRiviere?s work as an artist addresses the issues surrounding life events and their consequences, and through various media she explores themes of transience and interruption. Her exhibition, New Passengers, deals with the passing of time, the change that it affects, and the idea that we are but the current passengers on this planet. As metaphor, she uses extreme close-up photographs of corroding old boxcars in the North Bay area, focusing on the chipping paint and rust. The effect is oddly beautiful, with rich colours and textures throughout.

Michelle studied at Emily Carr College of Art and Design, has an honours degree in Fine Art from the University of Guelph, and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. She has exhibited since 1988 in British Columbia and Ontario, and has works in various media in private collections in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
