Leatherwork: From Function to Fashion and Beyond

[ Website ]

The focus of Leatherwork: From Function to Fashion and Beyond is the exploration into leather as a medium for the creation of fine art, utilizing techniques more commonly seen in fashion to create form and line.

Research into international leathercraft archives has yielded fascinating historical examples of leather as art, which have served as inspiration for some of my recent works. Stamping, cutwork, piercing, appliqué and surface design elements are added layer by layer, in order to develop these one-of-a-kind designs.

After twenty years in the apparel design industry in the United States, I returned home to Canada in 2002, and now create my designs from my lakeview studio in northern Ontario. Every day, I continue to find inspiration in the world outside my doorstep and work to transpose that appreciation of Nature into my designs.
