F.J. McElligott Photography Exhibition & Silent Auction

The students at F.J. McElligott Intermediate Secondary School have worked hard this year to understand a new form of art, photography. The equipment provided for this new course and new type of learning was provided through a successful grant proposal and funds provided to the school in 2014 by the school board called: “FJM: 2020”. The vision was to provide students, teachers and members of the Mattawa community with access to technology and infrastructure required for developing 21st Century skills. One of the goals was to expand on existing opportunities for the students in the arts with a Media Arts course and a Photography course. The photography course this year has also focused on inquiry based learning, allowing the students to be creative with their art and study subject matter that interested them in photography.

The students are very proud of their work and are honored to have it showcased in the Kennedy Underground Gallery that is part of the WKP Kennedy Gallery at the Capitol Center in North Bay. The students have been so engaged in their learning and newfound love for the arts that they have also decided to give back to the art community by having a silent auction on their photography work. The silent auction will be held on March 20th at the WKP Kennedy Gallery as part of the Downtown Gallery Hop. The proceeds from this auction will go to support education plans that provide artistic training and mentorship to the youth of our community through the WKP Kennedy Gallery. Plans are already being made to have an artist come out to Mattawa this coming semester to speak with the visual art class and the media art class running at F.J. McElligott.

To view the artworks please visit the Kennedy Underground Gallery between February 3 and March 20. On Friday, March 20, the silent auction will begin at 7:00pm as part of the Downtown Gallery Hop and end at 9:30pm.
