Canada Place 150: Planting the Seeds of Diversity and Inclusion

Opening Reception: November 1st, 2017 from 6:30-8:30pm

This event coincides with the Opening Ceremony and Gala Evening for Teamwork Makes the Dream Work, a group exhibition organized by the North Bay Indian Friendship Centre.

This is a Community mural project revolving around the theme of Diversity and Inclusion.

This project was conceived by Hariett Madigan, co-chair of the North Bay Heritage Gardeners, and grew to include a partnership between the Lindsay Weld Centre for Children, the North Bay and District Multi-Cultural Centre, the WKP Kennedy Gallery and the General Public. Pieces of the mural are circulating throughout North Bay, being created the general public of all ages, and will come together in October to be sewn together into a giant wall mural. Participants are asked to reflect on the ideas of Diversity and Inclusion (what those words mean, and what they do not mean). This mural is created to coincide with the opening of a new public meeting place, at North Bay's waterfront:

To respond to the current celebrations of Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation, and to honour the 20th Anniversary of the North Bay Heritage Gardeners volunteer organization, a gathering place at North Bay's waterfront has been funded by the federal government. This gathering place is meant to bring the community together, and in particular, to invite visitors to reflect on diversity and what it means to be inclusive.

If you would like to learn more about this gathering place, please see the following press release: http://www.nugget.ca/2017/06/24/funds-for-canada-place-150-waterfront-gathering-place

Notice: We are looking for participating artists who would like to contribute to this community mural! Please see this Call for Artists here:  http://www.kennedygallery.org/call-to-artists-canada-place-150
