***Join us for the opening reception for Rounding Up the Realists (a
group exhibition) and New Roads/Ancient Paths by Bruce St. Clair! This
opening is part of a downtown gallery hop that includes the Kennedy
Gallery, the White Water Gallery, Art on Main, and the Joan Ferneyhough
Gallery.***
For close to a decade the Nipissing Realists
exhibited artworks that faithfully reproduced what they saw and
experienced as artists working in northern Ontario. Realism IS
contemporary and all of these painters are still inspired to create
recognizable stories, scenes and characters using oil, acrylic and
watercolour paints. For this exhibit we are "rounding up the realists"
bringing them back together as a collective of contemporary artists, and
re-examining the role of "realism" in contemporary visual art practice.
The
exhibition includes new or previously unseen works by original
Nipissing Realist artists: Bruce St. Clair, Arlie Hoffman, Pam Adams,
Kevin Hoffman, and Marie Stewart and by regional realist artists, June
Stewart, Coral Young and Dianne Allen.
Be sure to visit the other
galleries in the downtown gallery hop!
